"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return." - Toulouse-Lautrec, Moulin Rouge! (2001)
20th Century Fox, PG-13, 97 minutes
Directed By: Baz Luhrman
Cast:
Ewan McGregor - Christian
Nicole Kidman - Satine
John Leguizamo - Toulouse-Lautrec
Jim Broadbent - Harold Zidler
Richard Roxburgh - The Duke
Domestic Box Office Gross: $57,386,369
Synopsis: Christian is an English writer who moves to Paris for inspiration and work. Upon joining a Bohemian acting troupe, to help write their musical, he is smitten by a gorgeous courtesan named Satine. Satine must now choose between her heart and her career as a nefarious Duke will only invest in the Moulin Rouge if Satine is a part of the deal.
Fact: The necklace Nicole Kidman wears was real. It had 1,308 diamonds weighing 134 carats and worth an estimated $1 million dollars.
Trivia: The Green Fairy is pop singer Kylie Minogue while its screaming voice is Ozzy Osbourne.
Movie Mistake: Satine is barefoot while singing 'I Hope You Don't Mind' to the Duke who is holding a bottle of wine. When Satine jumps on the bed she is wearing shoes and he is wineless.
My Take: There are only three other movies, se7en, The Dark Knight and Silence of the Lambs, that I walked out of numb. Did I really just see that? Was that as amazing as I thought it was? I spent the next two weeks deciphering what I saw and thinking about how much I liked it. What I love, like the other three films I mentioned, is how incredibly different and creative it was. I know there are people out there that despise musicals and my response would be that you haven't seen Moulin Rouge!

It was sad about Heath Ledger and I think that detoured me from seeing the movie during that time. I met him near Seattle during his filming in 10 Things I Hate About You, actually it was in Fife, WA near Seattle where I waited on him. Never thought to get his autograph either. I didn't really know who he was at that time- bummer! You really know your movies and I enjoy your hubs!

I couldn't agree with you more on Moulin Rouge. It was a great story and awesome visuals. It was the first DVD I ever owned. I will have to see Dark Knight- haven't seen it yet.
